Full-frame, low-light shooting
The FX3's full-frame image sensor is equipped with innovative light-gathering techniques to capture clear images even in low light. The standard ISO sensitivity of 80-102400 for movies can be increased up to 409600.
Wide dynamic range, greater expressiveness
The FX3 offers an exceptional dynamic range of over 15 stops for brightly lit indoor and outdoor scenes at all times. Capture every detail and enjoy unprecedented cinematic freedom in colour grading.

Cinematic color science with S-Cinetone™
S-Cinetone colour, developed for Sony's FX9, is preset on the FX3 for cinematic expression. It's been fine-tuned to meet the demands of today's content creators, with rich colour and natural skin tones that can be paired with other Cinema Line cameras without grading.
120fps 4K full focus
Even at high frame rates, the FX3 captures detailed 4K images thanks to high-precision AF and high-speed readout. Slow and Quick mode gives you full control over the frame rate of shooting to get beautiful slow-motion motion sequences up to 5x (with 24p output).
10-bit S-Log3 and HDR recording for smooth gradations
The S-Log3 and S-Gamut3.Cine gamma curve enables high-quality colour reproduction shooting with a wide dynamic range and makes it simple to match footage from other Cinema Line cameras during post-production. HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) HDR picture profile enables direct HDR (HLG) playback on compatible TVs, without post-production.
16-bit HDMI RAW output
For demanding post-production workflows, 16-bit RAW output is available via HDMI to compatible external recorders, such as XAVC HS 4K, XAVC S 4K or XAVC S-I 4K and proxy files captured in-camera. The RAW video output has a resolution of 4264 x 2408 [16:9], higher than DCI-4K resolution.
Enjoy rich detail and true-to-life colors
The FX3 offers 4K internal recording, 10-bit depth color sampling and 4:2:2 with All Intra compression combined with Long GOP compression. This allows you to take colour grading further and retain natural gradation, for truly free editing.
Compensation for focus breathing
With the breathing compensation function enabled, the camera allows you to record movies with more stable images when used with compatible lenses. It is also possible to record the breathing metadata to apply compensation with the latest Catalyst Browse/Prepare Plugin software during post-production.
Reliable and accurate autofocus
Wide-area AF with Intelligent Tracking uses focal-plane phase detection to persistently track the subject throughout the frame. Fast Hybrid AF is precisely focused, even at shallow depth of field and at high frame rates of 120p in 4K (QFHD).
Accurate AF tracking for stability
Tracking keeps the focus steady on the subject so you can concentrate on the composition. Real-time Eye AF ensures accurate focus of the face and eyes, and real-time tracking is based on Sony's unique AI recognition algorithms.
Smooth transitions and tactile focus control
The FX3 includes seven levels of AF transition speed to easily create rack focus, and five levels of AF subject shift sensitivity, which allows the user to customise how easily the AF changes or stays on the locked subject. You can also select the subject you want to focus on by touching the LCD monitor.
High performance in mobility wherever you go
Compact and lightweight, the FX3 is designed for high mobility. The detachable handle and accessory mounting holes allow for quick setup and storage and smooth shooting. The frame and covers are made from a lightweight magnesium alloy to optimize durability and performance, even in challenging environments.
Detachable XLR handle
The grip equipped with an XLR adapter with two full-size XLR terminals can be attached to the camera's Multi Interface (MI) Shoe for added comfort and stability in difficult shooting situations, such as shooting in low positions.
In-camera image stabilization
Active mode is a 5-axis in-body optical image stabilization system that offers increased stabilization in movie shooting. To preserve image quality, the gyroscope sensor measures camera movement precisely and optically compensates for it. This makes stable video possible even when shooting handheld without using a gimbal, while walking and at 4K resolution.
Front and rear indicator lights
The indicator lights on the front and rear of the FX3 indicate whether the camera is recording at a particular time. They are clearly visible to the camera operator and the person in front of the camera.
Vari-angle LCD touch panel
The 3.0-type (2.36 million-dot) LCD touchscreen panel features a side-opening design to allow for flexible positioning and improved visibility when the camera is mounted on a gimbal. The touch panel also allows intuitive menu control for many camera settings.
Controls for efficient solo shooting
In addition to the six customisable buttons, the most commonly used controls are within reach of one hand, to use the other hand for lens operation or balance. Usage has been optimised with several threaded holes in the frame and handle to mount accessories directly.
Uninterrupted 4K/60p recording
For uninterrupted 4K/60p recording, the FX3 is designed with an innovative heat dissipation system. Heatsink placement, airflow structure, and quiet fan all contribute to optimized cooling, even during long shooting sessions.
XLR adapter and digital input for audio quality
In addition to the camera's convenient built-in microphone, you can connect professional microphones externally to the grip's standard XLR connectors via a Multi Interface (MI) shoe's digital audio interface. You can select from three recording formats, including 4 channels at 24-bit. You can also record digital audio by connecting a digital microphone like the ECM-B1M, even without using the grip.
Two high-speed card slots
Designed for the demands of next-generation realization, CFexpress Type A cards support high-bit-rate recording. The slots support CFexpress Type A cards and conventional UHS-I/UHS-II SDXC cards, and because they are identical, they allow for daisy-chain/backup shooting.
