- The Beauty Dish is a reflector to modify the light of the flash. The small reflector centered on the inside returns the light from the flash to the large reflector, avoiding a hot light spot in the center.
- It provides a very characteristic illumination with a mix of hard and soft light. It defines the lines of the face well through the shadows.
To achieve a good effect, the Beauty Dish has to be positioned very close to the subject to be photographed, at a distance equal to twice its diameter and in a higher position than the camera. This way the light is focused and the shadows are well defined, but soft. The transition between shadows and light is very fast.
Thanks to the beehive, the light is slightly more concentrated and richer in contrast.
