Excellent G Master® resolution
This exquisite lens offers superb quality in a range of 100-400mm, extendable to 800mm with an optional teleconverter. An ED XA (Extra-low Dispersion, Extreme Aspherical) element and XA, Super ED and ED elements optimize chromatic and spherical aberration for high resolution throughout the zoom range. The maximum aperture remains constant at F4.5 when zooming. The ED XA and XA elements contribute to exquisite G Master bokeh.
Fast, accurate AF easily follows active subjects
Sony's advanced algorithms and four XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors drive the floating focus groups for up to 3x faster AF. Follow-up performance has been improved by up to 50%. The α9 III's body enables reliable AF tracking in shooting sequences up to 120 fps. Focus breathing and focus and axial drift associated with zooming are minimised, delivering smooth, professional-looking cinematic images.
Light weight for effortless shooting
The magnesium alloy parts and meticulous design resulted in a total weight of just 1840 g. This is surprisingly light for a super-telephoto zoom, allowing users long shooting sessions with minimal fatigue. Internal zoom minimizes center of gravity drift while zooming, improving handling and maneuverability. Even the zoom torque has been optimised to ensure smooth operation.
Advanced optical stabilisation and professional control
Optical stabilization works with stabilization built into the α body to achieve extraordinary results. A function ring can be assigned to the default focus control for quick registration and recall of a specific focus point, APS-C/Full-frame switching, which allows quick changes to the equivalent of a 1.5x zoom or Power Focus. It also includes a zoom smoothness switch and security slot.
Robust reliability in challenging conditions
In addition to the overall dust and moisture resistant design, the outer surface of the front element features a fluorine coating that prevents the adhesion of fingerprints, dust, water, oil and other contaminants. The coating also makes it simple to clean the lens surface.
