2 XA (Extra-Aspherical) elements produce incredible resolution right to the edges, with 2 ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements minimising chromatic aberration. The eyes and expressions are captured with a unique clarity despite the framing. Sony Nano AR Coating II suppresses glare and ghosting in almost any type of light. The minimum focal length is 0.85 m.

The FE 85mm F1.4 GM II retains the renowned performance of the previous model3 with a new optical design to control chromatic aberration for more natural bokeh. An 11-blade circular aperture offers an added improvement, and precision-controlled spherical aberration works with XA elements to minimize bokeh on rims. All of this means smooth transitions from sharp focus to deep bokeh at F1.4.
With the speed and AF accuracy of advanced α-series bodies
2 XD linear motors and high-speed control give the FE 85mm F1.4 GM II an AF speed that is 3x faster than the previous model. With about 7x more tracking of moving subjects, it enables reliable shooting with a narrow depth of field at F1.4. Compatible with the α9 III's 120fps capability with its global shutter. The FE 85mm F1.4 GM II offers amazing creative control for beautiful portraits.
20% less weight without compromising image quality
XA (extreme aspherical) elements, enhanced optics, XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors and a compact circular aperture unit deliver excellent large-aperture performance in a body that measures just 84.7mm x 107.3mm and weighs just 642g. That's about 13% less volume and 20% less weight for outstanding agility, compatible with α series structures.

It works seamlessly with Real-time Recognition AF on α-series bodies for fast, accurate and quiet tracking, with sharp focus on fast subjects even at F1.4. With minimized focus breathing, it supports the body's breathing compensation. The aperture ring can work without clicking, and the linear response MF offers smooth control.

2 customisable focus hold buttons and 1 AF/MF switch offer flexibility, with an aperture ring and Linear Response MF offering intuitive control for creative shooting. The FE 85mm F1.4 GM II accepts 77mm threaded filters. Dust and moisture resistant design for reliability in challenging outdoor conditions and a fluorine coating on the front element repels contaminants.
