In addition, the special design of the focusing lens group enables fast and smooth AF performance for videography and more. This lens combines a compact design and comfortable operation, while prioritising exceptional image quality. With the latest SIGMA technologies, this lens digitally corrects optical distortion.
Silent
The optical design and stepping motor provide smooth autofocus during video shooting. Using Face Recognition AF results in consistent autofocus on faces, even when they're moving.
Exceptional optical performance
The SIGMA 16mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary features SIGMA's internal focusing technologies, while lighter lens elements in the focusing lens group make a more compact element of the mechanism possible. In addition, this lens offers exceptional stability, whether the photographer is shooting handheld or has the camera placed on a surface. Structurally, the lens features materials and parts that contribute to its compact and lightweight structure. In short, this is an unprecedented lens that combines exceptional optical performance with exceptional portability and usability.
Image quality
With 16 elements in 13 groups, the optical system features a multitude of high-tech and high-end components, including three FLD glass elements, two SLD glass elements, and two molded glass aspherical elements. This system minimises optical abnormalities and ensures exceptional resolution with a wide aperture and across the entire aperture range. In particular, the two aspherical lens elements feature ultra-high-precision surfaces polished to tolerance levels of less than 10 nanometers, minimizing the bokeh effect that some aspherical elements produce and ensuring clear image quality throughout the frame. In addition, the optical system structure gently bends the light to minimize the effect of sagittal coma and provide optimal optical performance from the center of the structure to the edge. The result is a smooth, round bokeh effect with a large volume of light throughout the frame.
Minimize flare and ghosting effects
From an early stage in the lens design process, flare and ghosting were measured to establish an optical design that is resistant to strong incident light sources such as backlighting. SIGMA's Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting to help photographers produce sharp, high-contrast images, even in backlit conditions. The included lens cap can be attached to block unwanted light, which can have a negative effect on rendering performance.
