Description
B+W ND 806 Master MRC Nano filter, six f-stops. ND filters or neutral density (ND) filters are used if too much light restricts the creative possibilities. This B+W ND filter, which reduces light entering the camera by six f-stops, already qualifies as an extreme filter. With this filter, and without changing the aperture (and DOF), an exposure time of 1/60 sec becomes a full second. Running water becomes cloudy and soft. A tripod is required in any case.
ND filters can produce cleaning effects on movements if the exposure time can be extended with the required aperture. A waterfall, then, no longer appears frozen, but like a flowing movement. ND filters create ingenious effects in architecture or urban photography. With long exposure times of several hours, people walking through the photo are blurry or not reproduced. For physical reasons, very dense filters have a warm tone that can be compensated for in image processing.

Nano MRC Coating
An important criterion for a perfect B+W filter is a high-quality coating, also known as an anti-reflective coating. With a B+W filter, these layers are evaporated using the thin-layer technique, a rather complex coating process. The coating material consists of special substrates that are applied in one or more layers depending on the coating system. In the MRC nano-coated B+W filter, a drop of water remains practically spherical. It rolls over the surface. A first-rate dirt and water repellent effect occurs.

In addition to the filter effect, the combined coating also prevents problematic reflections by including a multi-layer anti-reflective component with seven layers on each side of the filter. Finally, an outer layer with the usual dirt and water repellency properties is applied. With this feature, the filter not only has full protection, but also a simple cleaning and care of the filter disc. The light attenuation itself is very uniform throughout the visible range and therefore produces great images with neutral colors.
