The α7R VI delivers extraordinary resolution, image quality and burst shooting speed, thanks to advanced imaging technology refined based on feedback from discerning creators. It is a complete, optimized system that takes performance to unprecedented levels.

Resolution
The α7R VI, the first in the α7R series to be equipped with a fully stacked Exmor RS image sensor, delivers advanced image quality with up to 5.6x faster readout speeds. Take your shooting performance to the next level with 30fps shooting sequences at full resolution, 4K at 60p without cropping, extended dynamic range, and reliable low-light AF.

BIONZ XR2™ with built-in AI
The BIONZ XR2 engine with an integrated AI processing unit delivers significant improvements in picture and sound quality, power management and responsiveness. High-speed processing enables up to 60 calculations per second of AF/AE, blackout-free shooting and 8K video, with a built-in AI processing unit that improves subject recognition and lighting estimation for unprecedented shooting support.

Expanded creative potential
The fully stacked Exmor RS image sensor delivers class-leading resolution of 66.8MP and exceptional image quality for landscapes, portraits, wildlife, and more. Shadow noise is minimised in high-dynamic range landscapes, and portraits are captured with realistic skin tones.

White Balance
The Visible Light & IR Sensor works with deep learning-based illumination estimation to achieve stable and accurate automatic white balance in any light conditions. Together, they ensure natural colour reproduction in a wide range of scenes.

Realistic rendering of wide dynamic range scenes
The upgraded Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO) balances bright highlights and dark shadows, and offers a wider range of intensity settings, up to Lv8. At higher levels, DRO highlights shadowed areas with intense backlighting, producing more natural-looking portrait images.

Stabilization up to 8.5 points
Outstanding stabilization performance maximizes resolution, preventing degradation due to blur. Stabilisation is even more effective with compatible lenses, and telephoto shake is also significantly reduced.

Optimized format options with lightweight RAW
A RAW format [Compressed (HQ)] has been added to the existing format, allowing lightweight RAW files for continuous shooting at the same high image quality.

Three Composite RAW Modes
[Pixel Shift Multi-Capture] mode creates extremely high-resolution compositions, [NR Capture] produces low-noise images, and [HDR Capture] captures images with a wide dynamic range.

Expanded RAW
Expanded RAW offers two image enhancement functions: [Extended High Resolution] which increases the number of pixels of captured images by a factor of four to approximately 270 MP and [Extended NR], which provides high noise reduction while maintaining maximum resolution.

Continuous shooting without blackouts
Shoot bursts at up to 30fps at up to 66.8MP resolution, with AF/AE tracking and no blackouts in the viewfinder. Up to 60 calculations per second of AF/AE allow you to easily follow even the most complex subject movements. Plus, with the optimized BIONZ XR2 processing engine and support for CFexpress Type A cards, continuously capture up to 215 JPG images and 65 compressed RAW (HQ) images.

Pre-capture
Capture the decisive moment, even after it's happened. Press the shutter button halfway down to set the focus, then press all the way down to record a burst of images between 0.03 to 1 second after the initial half-press.

Increase speed
During continuous burst shooting, press an assigned custom button to change the shooting speed, for example, from 10 fps to 30 fps, when the decisive moment approaches. This function can be used even when shooting individual frames.

Real-time recognition AF+
The α7R VI uses the latest human pose estimation technology for improved recognition and tracking. It maintains precise focus on the desired subject in a group or when a distant subject is small in the frame, even when the subject is moving.

Improved object recognition performance
Recognition of distant animals and birds has been significantly improved. Choose from Human, Animal, Bird, Insect, Car/Train, or Airplane modes, or allow the object type to be automatically detected. Even with object recognition disabled, Sony's original algorithm processes multiple data points for reliable tracking.

Approx. 94% AF coverage
Fast readout and processing ensures significantly improved AF. The 759 phase-detection points cover about 94% of the image area for precise focusing for still shooting, even when the subject is small in the frame.

Precise AF in low light
Enjoy reliable AF with light levels as low as EV-6 or EV-11 with Brightness Monitoring enabled. AF can also be limited to long-distance ranges for capturing distant low-light scenes.

Flexible focus area settings
Choose from XL, L, M, S, and XS point focus area sizes, or create a custom vertical focus area. The XS setting assists in the focus of the subject when there are elements in the foreground.

Continuous DMF
When shooting with AF, if you rotate the lens's focus ring, the focus temporarily switches to manual to fine-tune or transfer focus to the desired subject.

Focus bracketing
Up to 299 images are automatically captured at specified focus increments. You can then select the best focus or compose the images in post-production to an extreme depth of field.

No more flicker
Anti-flicker shooting prevents exposure and colour variations caused by artificial lighting, and high-frequency anti-flicker shooting adjusts the shutter speed for the best results at LED-lit settings.

4K full-frame video at 60p
Equipped with an optimised image sensor and processing engine, the α7R VI records in 4K (QFHD: 3840 x 2160) at 60p and at a high frame rate in 4K at 120p without tearing. 4:2:2 color sampling and 10-bit depth enhance high video quality.

8K movies with stunning resolution
It allows you to record 8K movies at 30p3839 in XAVC HS format with 8.2K oversampling at incredible resolution. The precision of the AF performance, along with the natural gradations and colors, further elevates the final quality. 8K supports 4:2:2 10-bit recording.

Greater flexibility in editing
Using the sensor's tonal range, dual-gain shooting offers greater latitude with detailed shadows, low noise and fluid video gradations for greater editing flexibility.

Post-production workflows
The S-Log gamma curve maintains smooth gradations for more effective post-processing. It supports S-Gamut and S-Gamut3.Cine color spaces, and S-Cinetone™ and imported user LUTs offer a finished look without gradation.

Built-in audio processing in the camera
When recording with an internal or external microphone, the Audio Noise Reduction function, with Noise Cut and Wind Noise Reduction modes, uses digital processing to reduce background, wind, and lens noise.

Floating audio recording
The optional XLR-A4 XLR adapter ensures 96kHz/32-bit floating audio recording. It offers a wide dynamic range through multi-interface (MI) support compatible with a digital audio interface. This high-quality audio allows for greater flexibility when editing.

Focus on composition
Pose estimation technology for human objects offers reliable recognition for movies and stills. Choose from Human, Animal, Bird, Insect, Car/Train, or Airplane modes, or allow the object type to be automatically detected.

Advanced stabilization
An advanced stabilization unit expands the rotation compensation range by up to 2x, effectively reducing manual rotation shake. Select Dynamic Active Mode for 30% more effective compensation and more stable handheld video.

Breath compensation for fluid cinematic images
Sony's original Clear Image Zoom technology stabilises the angle of view while focusing, minimising breathing. Compensation can also be applied via the Catalyst Browse™ and Catalyst Prepare™ apps or the Catalyst Prepare Plugin™ during post-production.

High-resolution viewfinder
With its predecessor's class-leading resolution of 9.44 million dots, the α7R VI now features an OLED electronic viewfinder with a DCI-P3 equivalent colour gamut, 10-bit depth, and up to 3x49 luminance. Enjoy a clear and perfect view, even in bright conditions outdoors or when shooting in HLG.

Four-axis multi-angle monitor
Sony's four-axis multi-angle monitor rotates up, down, sideways and is easily adjustable for an optimal viewing angle. The 3.2-type LCD panel with 2.1 million dots is touch-sensitive and has a DCI-P3 equivalent color gamut, presenting sharp, natural images.
