Thanks to a new microphone capsule, machined brass acoustic tube and fine-tuned circuitry, you get clear, neutral audio pickup that fully complements the high-resolution and wide frequency response of High-Resolution Audio. With a well-defined bass and midrange and clear, open highs, you can capture the natural nuances of human voices, ambient sounds, musical instruments, and more.

Narrow front steering and smooth off-axis response
An advanced microphone capsule and acoustic tube form a precise phase interference system that attenuates lateral and rear pickup consistently across the entire frequency range. With exceptional supercardioid directivity, the ideal off-axis features offer focused, natural front-facing pickup of the desired clear sound and the attenuation of unwanted ambient noise, while maintaining a smooth, natural overall response.

Stable response over a variety of distances
The microphone's unique combination of capsule and acoustic tube also minimizes frequency and directivity variations at different recording distances, ensuring consistently high audio quality in a wide variety of situations. The sound captured is always impeccable, whether the microphone is on camera, on a boom or in another type of studio setup.

 Circuit design for high quality and low noise
High-quality film capacitors and metal film resistors are used in the signal path to maximize clarity and sound accuracy. The power supply includes solid conductive aluminum polymer capacitors, ensuring high capacity and a wide dynamic range with small circuit sizes. A machined aluminium chassis protects the capsule from external vibrations and effectively blocks electrical noise, ensuring high sound purity.

Compact without compromising performance
The ECM-778's outstanding performance is packed into a compact unit that's just 176mm long, thanks to the ingenious acoustic tube design and miniaturised circuitry. It can be mounted on a boom for recording in tight spaces, allowing the operator to get closer to the subject and capture audio as clearly as possible. Mounted on the camera, it stays out of sight and does not restrict camera movements .

Lightweight and easy to use
A machined aluminium frame and overall miniaturisation result in a total weight of just 102 g. Handling with the boom is quick and easy, reducing operator strain during long recording sessions. Weight and size are minimal when mounted on the camera, ensuring maximum camera mobility. This lightweight, compact high-performance microphone is ideal for virtually any pickup environment.

Reliable and versatile in any environment
Low-cut switch
A low-cut switch, easily accessible on the microphone body, can be activated to attenuate wind noise and vibrations and facilitate clear, intelligible recording in any environment.

Includes two wind shields
The ECM-778 includes foam and fur-type wind shields, which allow the user to achieve optimal performance indoors and outdoors. The foam wind shield is lightweight, easy to use, and a good choice for low-wind indoor environments. The fur model offers greater wind attenuation, making it an effective choice for outdoor situations with intense wind.

High reliability
The machined aluminum outer frame is lightweight and offers increased durability. Measures have also been taken to strengthen moisture resistance¹, ensuring consistent and reliable performance in a variety of challenging conditions.
