Blackmagic Video Assist is a portable monitor, a professional recorder, a moving scope and a fantastic camera viewfinder solution! You can also add better quality recording codecs and a larger monitor to any SDI or HDMI camera! The new design includes innovations such as four built-in scopes, improved focus assist capabilities, cue indicator, and built-in 3D LUTs . 3G models support formats up to 1080p60 and 12G HDR models up to 2160p60. The 12G HDR models have a brighter touchscreen for shooting on HDR digital film and for working outdoors in sunlight. Plus, 12G HDR models support Blackmagic RAW recording on compatible cameras! The new design also utilizes L-series batteries, which offer a longer lifespan.  Blackmagic Video Assist actually offers four products in one!

Perfect for Digital Cinema, Testing of Live Broadcast and Production !

Blackmagic Video Assist is so versatile that it can be used for hundreds of tasks. When you add it to your camera platform, you get a large-screen viewfinder with modern recording codecs, focus assist capabilities, and 3D LUTS . Video Assist is also an ultra-portable scope that allows you to test live broadcast and production equipment to ensure that video levels are correct and that all equipment is working properly. If you're doing live production, Video Assist is like a large-screen HyperDeck, which can be used as a mastering recorder, or as a clip player to insert announcements and promotions into live shows. You can even use it as an ISO recorder with each camera, so you get a dedicated monitor and recorder .

The 7" model includes all the features of the 5" model, but has a larger screen. This model has two SD card slots, so you can continue recording when a card is full. There are also 2 mini-XLR audio inputs with phantom power so you can connect and record directly from microphones.

Modern Design with Cutting-Edge Technology and Amazing Screens!

All Video Assist models are dominated by a large touchscreen with all the controls for recording, clip playback, scope viewing, and focus assist features . Both 7" models are large enough to include analog audio inputs and two SD card slots for continuous recording, with automatic recording on the second card. Both 12G models include 12G-SDI and Ultra HD HDMI connections, plus USB-C for direct recording to external flash drives. All models include a rear tally light, a front-panel speaker for clip playback, and a headphone jack.  Video Assist utilizes Sony L-series batteries, and with two battery compartments, you can change batteries without interrupting recording .

Transform Your Camera Usability with Video Assist!

Traditional cameras are designed for shoulder operation. Spending hours looking through the viewfinder of a camera mounted on a tripod can be exhausting.  Video Assist will transform your shooting style with a rig-mountable screen. It is much more comfortable to use a screen installed in a position that is more suitable for shooting setups. In addition, you have a better sense of the positioning of the operator, assistant or director. With 5" or 7" models, you can choose the monitor size that suits you best. You also get fantastic features like focus zoom, focus peaking, zebras, histogram, false color, scopes, frame markers, framing guides, touch screen, and more .

Customize Tools and Touch Screen Features

With large , bright 5" and 7 " touchscreens, Video Assist makes it incredibly easy to frame shots and focus accuracy. The touchscreen displays critical information while you're shooting, including the time code, transport control, audio meters, and a histogram for exposure. You can also customize the LCD to add or remove overlays, such as the current file name, focus peaking, zebra, false color, framing guides, 3D LUTs, and more. Support for 3D LUTs allows you to monitor shots with the desired colors and look. You can even "burn" the LUT if you want to write it to the file. If you're using Blackmagic RAW, the 3D LUT is only added to the metadata, so it can be disabled in post-production.

Recorders Dual Media Recordings for Uninterrupted Recordings

Video Assist utilizes commonly available SD card media, so you can record to easy-to-find flash memory cards. The files are small enough to allow long recordings on standard SD cards or faster UHS-II cards. The larger 7" Video Assist 12G model also includes two SD card slots, so you can swap out full cards even while recording, allowing for infinite-long recordings. Standard SD cards and faster UHS-II cards are ideal for broadcasting because they're  small, fast, and affordable.

Upgrade to Better Digital Camera Recordings

Blackmagic Video Assist is an ideal upgrade for cameras because its bright display is larger than the small displays found on home cameras, not to mention you also get professional focus assist features and better quality file formats.  Video Assist is also a great solution for professional cameras, since you can use it to upgrade older broadcast cameras to modern file formats used in the latest editing applications. You get support for all editing programs as you can record in Apple ProRes and Avid DNx. You can also use Blackmagic RAW on compatible cameras. With HDMI and SDI inputs, you can connect it to any home camera, professional camera and even DSLRs.

Large HDR Monitorwith Simple Touch Controls

The innovative user interface with LCD touch screen gives you incredible control. On the screen, there are dedicated buttons to play, stop and record, as well as a mini timeline to browse through your recordings. You can even drag images to move forward and backward at intervals! The LCD includes a heads-up display with display of the time code, video pattern, media status, as well as audio meters. Scopes can also be enabled via the touch screen, as can focus and exposure assist. There's also a wide range of settings, all controlled via the LCD screen. Plus, you can load and save 3D LUTs !

Advanced HDR Models They include 12G-SDI and HDMI 2.0!

Video Assist includes a wide range of video and audio connections, such as multi-rate SDI to SD HD on all models and Ultra HD on 12G-SDI models.  HDMI is included for HDMI cameras and monitoring on home televisions and video projectors. The 7-inch model includes mini-XLR inputs that are provided for audio input from external microphones and audio mixers. The USB-C connection allows you to connect external flash drives or SSDs for recording, so you can get extremely long-duration recordings, as flash drives are usually much larger than SD cards.  Video Assist even includes a 12V DC power supply, and 12G models include a latchable power connector.

Ideal File Formats for Post-Production!

Video Assist uses open-standard file formats, so you don't waste time transcoding media. The files are compatible with all post-production applications so you can work with the software of your choice, including DaVinci Resolve Studio. Recording runs in industry-standard 10-bit ProRes or DNx files in all formats and from all HDMI or SDI cameras, or in Blackmagic 12-bit RAW on 12G-SDI HDR models when connected to compatible cameras.  Blackmagic RAW is the fastest growing RAW format in the world and developers can download and use the free Blackmagic RAW SDK to add support to their applications. And best of all, media files work on all operating systems .

Record Directly to USB-C External Drives

Blackmagic Video Assist 12G models even include a USB-C expansion port so you can connect an external flash drive for recording. USB-C flash drives have a huge capacity, as they do not suffer from any size restrictions. Plus, you can record to the same drive you're using or editing on, so you don't have to waste time copying files before starting  post-production. Flash drives are so fast that they can record formats with high data rates, such as High Frame Rate Ultra HD. Imagine adding a Blackmagic MultiDock 10G for SSD compatibility and recording to multiple disks as each drive fills up. You also get touchscreen menus, which make it easy to manage the external drives .

USB Webcam outputfor Live Streaming !

You can now live stream using Blackmagic Video Assist 3G and 12G HDR models, thanks to new support for webcams on your USB connections. That is to say, you can connect them to a computer and get live videos on any video program. The software is tricked into thinking that Video Assist is an ordinary webcam. In addition, you will have maximum quality HD resolution at 1080p. Choose any software you like, such as Open Broadcaster for live streams, or you can use Skype to call a client with video of the live footage.  Blackmagic Video Assist is compatible with all major programs and platforms such as Open Broadcaster, XSplit Broadcaster, YouTube Live, Facebook Live, Skype, Zoom, Twitch, Periscope, Livestream, Wirecast and more .

Integrated Scopes Ensure Standards Compliance

Video Assist includes scopes for precise camera exposure and compliance with broadcast regulations. This means that it is an excellent portable waveform monitoring solution. The waveform display provides a traditional visualization of the luminance level (brightness) of the video inputs or playback signal. The vectorscope allows  the visualization of color intensity at 100% of SDI reference levels. You also have an RGB standard monitor, which is ideal for  color correction. The histogram displays the distribution of white-to-black detail in your images and the reaping of highlights or shadows. Built-in scopes can be overlaid on live video, or as a small picture-in-picture preview in the upper right corner of the scope.

Upload Custom3D LUTs to Recreate Movie Looks !

Some cameras can output  a logarithmic color space to preserve  dynamic range, which is great in post-production. However, when these files are viewed on a monitor, they can look dull and washed out. 3D LUTs fix this problem because they allow you to apply a "look" to the monitor so that you have a sense of what the finished images will look like when you edit. LUTs can be applied temporarily for monitoring only, or they can be burned into files for use in editing when shooting with Blackmagic RAW.  Video Assist supports industry-standard 17-point and 33-point 3D LUT files, and also allows you to use built-in LUTs such as Extended Video, Film to Video, and more.

Direct metadata insertionfor faster editing!

Advanced digital slate and metadata capabilities make metadata entry extremely fast for any picture plan. Simply swipe left or right from the corner of the screen to open the digital slate. You can select to have the take numbers automatically increment when you start or stop  recording, so you don't have to manually enter them for each shot. You can also program the roll numbers to increment each time you format a card. All metadata is saved with the files and made available in post-production with programs like DaVinci Resolve!

12G-SDI Multiratefor SD, HD and Ultra HD

You get full support for the most popular video standards. The SDI and HDMI connections are multi-rate, so all models handle SD and HD television standards, and the 12G models add support for Ultra HD standards. Standard definition formats include NTSC and PAL.  HD 720p standards include 720p50 and 59.94p. Interlaced HD 1080i formats include 1080i50 and 59.94.  HD 1080p formats include 1080p23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, 30, 50, 59.94, and 60p. You can even work in PsF 1080 formats. On Blackmagic Video Assist 12G models you also get support for Ultra HD formats up to 2160p59.94. On these 12G models, you can even record DCI 2K and 4K at up to 25p for digital film work.

Analog Audio and SDIProfessional Multichannel

Blackmagic Video Assist includes a built-in professional audio recorder with audio quality far superior to most cameras, eliminating the need to carry additional audio equipment. When working in SDI formats, you can record 2, 4, 8, or 16 channels of audio. For connecting microphones, the Video Assist 7" model features two phantom-powered XLR analog audio inputs that support high-definition audio sample rates of 192 kHz at 16 and 24 bits per sample. The audio meters can even be changed between VU or PPM ballistics. Blackmagic Video Assist 12G has the latest audio technology to ensure an extremely low noise floor and low distortion so you can use it for digital cinema and broadcast work .

Localized for 11 Popular Languages

Multiple languages are fully supported, so you don't need to learn another language to use it! English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, German, French, Russian, Italian, Portuguese, and Turkish are supported. On first launch, Video Assist will display the language selection menu, however, you can use the menus to change languages whenever needed. When a language is selected, the text overlays on the screen change, as do any menus and overlays that are enabled on the video outputs. All of this means that Video Assist is perfect for doing work on international locations with different teams, as you can simply go into the menu and change the language whenever you need to.

Works with Most Popular Video Programs on the Market

Blackmagic Video Assist files are common and therefore compatible with  all operating systems or most video programs. Media can be formatted using exFAT or HFS+ so that you can easily access them on computers as if they were regular disks.  DaVinci Resolve is perfect for use with Video Assist because it includes editing, color correction, audio post-production and visual effects, all in one software application. Plus, you can download DaVinci Resolve for free for Mac, Windows, and Linux! You can also use files recorded in other popular programs, such as Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro X. With Video Assist, your media is common, so the files will remain readable in the future.
