Book "The Kiss" by Vítor Murta
Book "The Kiss" by Vítor Murta
A book that is a poem, full of beautiful black and white photographs of couples in love, period photographs that portray a vintage period, taken in several cities in Portugal.
Vitor Murta wants to honor love and romance, which he understands are increasingly absent these days. He decided to create photos of kisses that make us travel back in time.
There are kisses for all tastes, in train stations, bridges, bus stops, streets. They are goodbye kisses, reunion kisses, impulse kisses and kisses of those who give themselves just because. They are photographs full of love, but not only. Another striking feature is the markedly revivalist aesthetic. They are period photographs, portraying a period located there between the 30s and 60s. But after all, where did these vintage-style couples in love come from? From the imagination of Vitor Murta, a photographer who felt the "need to show the importance of love in the present day" and that's why he decided to create this photographic series that he called "The Kiss".
"I walked on the street, I didn't see people having demonstrations of affection. Until one day, I was walking through Porto and I saw in the distance an elderly couple sitting there, near S. Bento, in a mild late afternoon. Hand to hand, look with look and, finally, a kiss to seal the unconditional love that was felt. The scene was so engraved in my memory that it served as a motto for this work".
Porto, Lisbon, Coimbra, Aveiro, Águeda, Vila Nova de Famalicão (Lousado), were some of the cities that served as the backdrop for this project.
Not forgetting the role played by the equipment: "I usually use large-aperture fixed lenses, so I can shoot in low light conditions. Later in the image editing, I edit the photographs always in black and white".
The final result is this set of photographs that fascinates us and reminds us at all times, how timeless love is and our desire to show it.
