Fast, reliable and versatile, the SB-5000 offers unparalleled lighting performance in the field and in the studio. Radio signals enable operation at a distance of 30 metres and enable complex on-camera and off-camera setups: it is now possible to work in any environment where line of sight is obstructed or where an optical signal can be weakened by bright sunlight. The new built-in cooling system allows you to capture more than 100 quick shots with the flash running at full power. And for photographers who can't miss a moment when history unfolds, the lightweight and compact SB-5000 offers uncluttered controls for intuitive operation.
PROFESSIONAL SPEEDLIGHT FOR UNPARALLELED LIGHTING PERFORMANCE
Designed to meet the demands of professionals in the field or in the studio, the SB-5000 is an i-TTL Speedlight compatible with FX and DX format D-SLR. This Speedlight functions as a flash unit mounted on an active shoe, wireless controller or remote unit and is part of the Nikon Creative Lighting System. This is the first Nikon Speedlight to feature wireless radio control, which avoids the need for a direct line of sight between the main flash and the subordinate flash and increases reliability when shooting in bright sunlight. In fast-shooting situations, Nikon's new built-in cooling system increases the number of consecutive shots and eliminates unnecessary cuts. Other features include a guide number of 34.5 and a wide zoom range of 24-200 mm in the FX format (14 mm with the wide bezel). Simplified controls and menus ensure smooth operation, while the compact and lightweight design provides comfortable in-camera use. Three lighting patterns give you full control of flash coverage for specific shooting environments. The built-in wide panel and bounce card, plus the included diffuser dome, combine with Nikon's optional colour filters to further expand your creative options.
CONTROL OF DEMANDING SITUATIONS: ADVANCED WIRELESS RADIO-CONTROLLED LIGHTING
Designed to master difficult shooting situations, the SB-5000 fully supports the new radio control function of Nikon's Creative Lighting System. You can now trigger one or multiple flash configurations with the SB-5000 and the WR-R10 Wireless Remote Controller. The SB-5000's ability to flexibly respond to remote lighting challenges allows you to create and control almost any flash setup, including a variety of complex combinations. When paired with the WR-R10 Wireless Remote Controller, up to six SB-5000 drive combinations are supported. Optical control is also fully supported, meaning predecessor Speedlights can still be used for various flash setups.
THE PROFESSIONAL SPEEDLIGHT THAT STAYS COOL AFTER MANY CONSECUTIVE SHOTS
From the "red carpet" to the racetrack, the SB-5000 is designed to stay cool under pressure. To cope with fast-shooting situations, the SB-5000 features Nikon's new Speedlights cooling system – a world first* of built-in temperature control for compact clip-on units. Fast and reliable, it achieves an extraordinary 120 shots at 5-second intervals or 84 shots at 3-second intervals. More than 100 consecutive photos can be captured with the flash running at full power. The system suppresses heat production inside the flash head to prevent it from overheating: thermal protection has never been more effective.

FULL INTEGRATION WITH NIKON'S RENOWNED CREATIVE LIGHTING SYSTEM
At the heart of the SB-5000 is Nikon's i-TTL (intelligent Through-The-Lens) flash control, which allows Nikon Speedlights to share important exposure information with CLS-compatible D-SLRs. The SB-5000 can be radio-controlled as part of an Advanced Wireless Lighting setup, or controlled in a traditional way with optical line-of-sight control. Operational enhancements include unified flash control, which adds an extra level of system control. You can now operate the SB-5000 or change its settings from the camera menu or from a computer running Camera Control Pro 2 when the unit is mounted on the camera body.
COMPACT CONSTRUCTION, ORGANIZED CONTROL
Lighter than its predecessor and more intuitive to operate, the SB-5000 has been redesigned with convenience in mind. You'll notice the difference when you install the SB-5000 in your camera or when you store it in your travel bag: the weight of the compact flash body is only 420 g. The uncluttered control panel allows for a large, easily readable information screen. The rotary multi-selector and "i" button provide quick access to commonly used or customised functions: for example, the "i" button instantly displays key flash settings for single-flash photography or List-based Wireless Advanced Lighting. Like its predecessor, the SB-5000 flash head tilts downwards up to 7° or upwards up to 90°, and rotates 180° horizontally left and right.
