With an active USB device, the signals and data transfers entering and leaving the extension cable are buffered to ensure consistent signal quality while meeting the highest USB specifications.
Passive cables longer than 5m in length, for data transmission purposes, may result in signal and/or noise errors and are not recommended.
Up to 4 active USB extensions and 1 passive 4.6m USB extension cord from Tether Tools can be daisy-chained for a total of 24m before any drop in signal or quality is detected.
Setup is simple, just plug the male end of the extension cord into your computer and connect the USB cable from the camera or other device to the female end of the extension cord, so the repeater is closer to the camera, not the computer.
For longer distances, simply connect additional 5m active extensions in series to get the distance you need.
