Innovative optical design and manufacturing achieves unprecedented performance. Two XA (extreme aspherical) precision elements in a state-of-the-art optical design and meticulously controlled aberration produce incredible resolution at all apertures, including f/2. Two Super ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements and three ED glass elements minimize chromatic aberration, while Nano AR Coating II minimizes glare and ghosting.

Tracking easily keeps up with the α9 III's maximum burst shooting speed of 120fps and remains consistently reliable, even when zoomed in. Advanced Expression and Operation for Movies
Focus breathing is effectively reduced for perfect cinematic images, and Linear Response MF enables precise manual focusing for maximum sharpness and resolution. Rack focus and zoom effects can be used with f/2 depth of field to create natural transitions that guide the viewer's eye. Critical focusing for high frame rate recording at 4K 120p/FHD 240p is easy, and the entire system operates with minimal noise and vibration.
Professional control and reliability
Operability is enhanced by an aperture ring with an ON/OFF click switch and a lock-on switch, three assignable focus hold buttons, and a DMF switch that allows temporary switching to manual focus while using AF. And while this is a relatively large lens, it offers ample room to hold the camera. The removable tripod foot features 1/4-inch and 3/8-inch screw holes, and a dust/moisture-resistant design ensures maximum reliability.
