Constant f/1.8 maximum aperture
Once a privilege reserved only for prime lenses, the f/1.8 maximum aperture allows full-frame camera users to shoot tripod-free in low light and produce beautiful bokeh, while enjoying zoom flexibility. This unique optical achievement was created through SIGMA's accumulated optical design expertise and advanced production technology at the company's only production base in Aizu, Japan.
Practical and stable internal zoom
Using an internal zoom mechanism, the overall length of the lens remains constant when the focal length or focus distance changes. This means that the lens is easy to use when shooting without a grip, highly stable when mounted on a tripod or gimbal, and more resistant to dust and water contamination.
Consistent close focus
The minimum focusing distance is 30 cm throughout the zoom range, with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4 at the telephoto end, providing excellent close-up shooting capabilities. In addition to offering precise focus in confined spaces, the lens can therefore be used close to an object without affecting sharpness when zooming.
Video Production
Designed with video creation in mind, the lens's bright f/1.8 aperture and wide-to-normal zoom range make it a versatile tool ideal for single-shot and point-n' shoot setups. An internal zoom design maintains the full length during use, making it easy to balance on the gimbals. The design also suppresses focused breathing for smooth movement throughout the focal range. The autofocus of SIGMA's high-speed, high-response linear actuator remains quiet and accurate, while manual focus is enhanced with click and lock mechanisms.
