Bright and constant aperture of f/2.8
Open the fixed aperture of f/2.8 to shoot in low light at lower ISO sensitivities, or use faster shutter speeds to freeze motion. Set the aperture and shutter speed once, then zoom in and reframe the full zoom range of 70-180mm without affecting exposure. Shoot at f/2.8 and you can also enhance your portraits with a smooth bokeh effect.
Sharp close-ups
For added versatility, this telephoto lens is capable of extremely short focusing distances so you can shoot at close range without sacrificing sharpness. Minimum focus is just 0.27m at the short end (70mm) of the zoom range, and 0.85m if zooming in to shoot at 180mm.

Z teleconverters to get even closer
Extend your reach with the lightweight Z series teleconverters and convert the NIKKOR Z 70-180mm f/2.8 into a true macro machine. The Z TELECONVERTER TC-2.0x allows you to scale up to 360mm and doubles the lens's reproduction ratio by up to 0.96 magnifications, a near-lifelike size. Attach the Z TELECONVERTER TC-1.4x and it can reach up to 252 mm.
