L-Series Advanced Optics
- Rectilinear optical design with one Super UD element, three standard UD elements, and three aspherical elements to reduce chromatic aberration and distortion throughout the zoom range, while providing consistent edge-to-edge sharpness and illumination.

- ASC (Air Sphere Coating) and SWC (Subwavelength Structure Coating) to reduce flare, ghosting, and other aberrations to increase contrast and color accuracy.
- FLC fluorine coating applied to the lens surface effectively repels dust, water droplets, grease, and dirt. ensuring easy removal even when adhering to the lens surface. This coating also supports a high frequency of cleaning the lens surface and its anti-glare effect contributes to the capture of sharp images.

Fast autofocus and image stabilization
- Fast and accurate autofocus system that delivers fast and near-silent autofocus performance with full-time manual focus override.
- Quiet high-speed STM screw-type focus drive system that is especially beneficial for video users.
- An optical image stabilizer minimizes the appearance of camera shake by five stops to allow you to better work in low-light conditions and with slower shutter speeds. Additionally, when paired with an R-series EOS camera that features In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS), the Coordinated IS system allows for up to six stops of camera shake.
- Minimum focusing distance of just under 10" at all focal lengths for unique ultra-wide close-ups.
