Speed that maximizes frame performance
XD linear motors offer superior thrust to conventional types for up to a 5-fold improvement in tracking moving objects with current and future structures. Two of these newly created motors and algorithms drive focusing lenses faster and more accurately than ever before. The full-speed performance of advanced camera bodies can be applied to capture dynamic sports or wildlife objects.
Stunning G Master resolution and bokeh
High design standards ensure exceptional resolution from the edges of the image. The 3 fluorite elements minimize chromatic aberration. Spherical aberration is carefully controlled during design and manufacturing to achieve the best possible bokeh. High-performance 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverters are supported for excellent resolution and contrast, even at 800mm.
Remarkably light
The innovative optical design with three fluorite elements reduces the number of elements in front of the lens barrel to achieve the reduced weight of 2,895 grams. The magnesium alloy components also contribute to reducing weight. Portability and handling are excellent, and the ideal balance allows for easy and agile use, handheld or on a monopod.
Durability and reliability for challenging conditions
The dust and moisture resistant design offers the reliability needed in harsh conditions. The magnesium alloy used on the outside of the lens barrel, tripod mount, and inner body components increases durability and minimizes weight. The front lens element includes a fluorine coating that helps keep the lens clean and makes it easy to clean dirt and fingerprints.

Continuous DMF allows you to activate manual focus by rotating the focus ring, even in AF-C mode. It features optical image stabilisation and a new Mode 3 setting with an advanced algorithm that provides excellent stabilisation for dynamic sports action, as well as simplifying framing. The 4 focus hold buttons and the focus ring with linear response MF increase versatility.
