Two XA (extreme aspherical) elements in an optical design that meets the demanding requirements of G Master contribute to consistent high resolution in the image area. There are also three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements to suppress chromatic aberration. This innovative optical design minimizes sagittal glare so that light point sources are accurately reproduced.
Advanced optical design faithfully reproduces point sources
A new optical design incorporates two precision XA elements and eliminates sagittal glare, an aberration common in wide-aperture lenses, which can cause unnatural scattering of point light sources that becomes more pronounced at the periphery of the image.
Innovative optical design in a compact and lightweight lens
A new optical design that reduces the lens diameter by using two XA elements, one of which is on the front element, usually the largest in a lens, combines with a new DDSSM (Direct Drive SSM) focusing motor to achieve an incredibly light weight of just 445 grams. Thanks to its small size and weight, this lens is an ideal complement to compact E-mount bodies, offering exceptional mobility.
Stunning bokeh from G Master
The 11-blade circular aperture enhances smooth, natural bokeh, achieved with an advanced design and manufacturing process that includes precise control of spherical aberration. A minimum focusing distance of 0.24 metres (0.79 ft) and a maximum magnification of 0.17x enable close-up capability that, with the wide-angle view, produces dramatic perspectives that make good use of deep, lush bokeh.
Fast, precise, quiet AF for stills and movies
A new high-power DDSSM optimised for this lens provides approximately 3 times more thrust than the previous focusing motor. The increased power of the new DDSSM system delivers faster, more accurate and quieter autofocus motor capability for exceptional performance in stills and movies.
