A combination of two large-diameter fluorite elements, a Super UD (Ultra Low Dispersion) element and a UD glass element provides excellent sharpness and contrast, From center to corners, even at maximum aperture. A UD lens element positioned on the rear section of the lens provides excellent correction for the increase in chromatic aberration generated by the magnification optics. This results in sharp images with minimal color edges in any shooting condition.

Whether handheld or mounted on a monopod (or other devices that allow mobile positioning), Lens Image Stabilization can provide sharp image detail in low-light situations or at lower ISOs. This applies when capturing photos and videos, for stable images and sharp final images.
The lens's large manual focus ring is located directly on the lens barrel and allows you to select from three different levels of manual focus speed, to adjust the rotation of the focus ring to your desired preference. The "1" position on the M.Focus Speed switch provides the fastest sensitivity (a small rotation of the focus ring provides a significant focus shift on the lens); Settings 2 and 3 reduce this sensitivity, allowing for more precise manual focus adjustments. This can help if you need a slow speed to switch between someone's eyes in a distant profile, or a fast speed to identify different birds in a large, fast-moving flock. depending on the camera settings, manual focus is still possible while AF is enabled, allowing you to adjust the focus settings to suit your photographic preferences.
Memorize one - or two - different focusing distances and immediately return to either of them by slightly rotating the RF800mm F5.6 L IS USM lens's reproduction ring on the lens barrel. A wildlife photographer, for example, can pre-focus on two different locations where they expect wildlife to appear and immediately jump to any of the positions memorized through the reproduction ring. Full AF operation or manual focus also remains available.

Compatible with Canon RF1.4x and 2x extenders
To help get even closer to distant subjects, connect the compatible RF1.4x Extender or RF2x Extender to the RF800mm F5.6 L IS USM. Expand the effective telephoto power to 1120mm at f/8 with the RF1.4x Extender or to 1600mm effective at f/11 using the RF2x Extender. but allow the user to convert back to an f/5.6 lens for low-light situations by simply removing the extender.
Built to L-series lens specifications, the RF800mm F5.6 L IS USM features a highly durable design for excellent performance even in harsh weather conditions. It offers a dust- and water-resistant construction with seals around the mount, switches, rings, and more. To help keep a lens clean, even after multiple lens changes in less-than-ideal conditions, the RF800mm F5.6 L IS USM has a specially designed fluorine coating on the front and rear surfaces. The coating helps prevent water, oil, and other surface debris such as fingerprints from sticking to the lenses, which makes it easy to clean quickly and easily, without the use of solvents.
