The RF 1200mm F8L IS USM is at the top of Canon's expanding range of RF lenses and represents the pinnacle of super-telephoto performance. A lens like no one seen since the launch of the Canon EF1200mm f.5.6L USM some 29 years ago. Excellent image quality, the 1200mm fixed focal length super-telephoto lens expands the EOS R system. Impressively lightweight, weighing 7.4Kg, while maintaining high levels of image quality. Minimum focusing distance of Approx. 14.1 ft/4.3 m. Optical image stabilization with up to 4 stops* of vibration correction, including three IS operating modes. Super Spectra Coating (SSC) and Air Sphere Coating (ASC) help minimize ghosting and flare. Optimized magnification optics increase focal length while maintaining almost the same light weight, portability, and high levels of image quality achieved in the RF600mm F4 L IS USM lens. A combination of two large-diameter fluorite elements, a Super UD (Ultra Low Dispersion) element and a UD glass element provides excellent sharpness and contrast, A UD lens element positioned on the rear section of the lens provides excellent correction for the increase in chromatic aberration generated by the magnification optics. This results in sharp images with minimal color edges in any shooting condition.
Numerous optical and mechanical steps combine to make the RF1200mm F8 L IS USM extremely light for its focal length, transforming it into a lens that adapts perfectly to situations that require mobility and portability, such as when shooting motorsports and wildlife, or if used with a tripod to keep it fixed on a subject, as home plate, when shooting at a baseball game. Because it uses the same front-section optical design as the EF version III and RF600mm F4 L-series lenses, one can expect similar excellent image quality, delivering visual impact with its incredible telephoto power.
