The FX6 utilises Sony's industry-leading VENICE cinema camera technology, combining it with Sony's best-in-class and innovative mirrorless camera Alpha technology.
She is part of Sony's Cinema Line – dedicated to unleashing the extraordinary skills and talent of today's content creators and filmmakers.
FULL-FRAME CINEMA PICTURE QUALITY
The FX6 features a 10.2MP full-frame back-illuminated Exmor R™ CMOS sensor[ii] that delivers a wide dynamic range of more than 15 stops[iii] with high sensitivity and low noise.
The FX6's base sensitivity is ISO 800, with an enhanced sensitivity setting of ISO 12,800 [iv], expandable to 409,600 [v], for shooting in low light and very low light conditions.
It can record in 10-bit depth XAVC All Intra 4:2:2 with incredible image quality in DCI 4K (4096 x 2160 – up to 60p), QFHD 4K (3840 x 2160 – up to 120p[vi]) and FHD (1920×1080 – up to 240p) for incredibly detailed slow motion.
When more conveniently-sized files are required, the FX6 can record in QFHD 4K XAVC of 8-bit 4:2:0 long GOP (3840 x 2160 – up to 120pvi) and FHD 4:2:2 10-bit (1920×1080 – up to 240p).
The FX6 also includes a BIONZ XR™ image processing engine, initially used in the Sony Alpha 7S III camera, providing up to four times faster processing performance compared to the FS5 II.
Built on the same expertise as Sony's world-leading cinema camera, VENICE, the FX6 offers advanced cinematic colour science, including S-CinetoneTM for richer tonal reproduction right out of the box and on, as well as S-Log3, S-Gamut3 and S-Gamut3.Cine for flexibility during post-production.
The FX6's cinematic color science is optimized for premium applications, capturing the sensor's maximum dynamic range and providing creative freedom.
Leveraging VENICE's color science, the FX6 also makes it possible for productions to easily combine footage with other Cinema Line cameras.
ADVANCED VIDEO CAPABILITIES
Benefiting from Sony Alpha's impressive AF capabilities, the FX6 offers Fast Hybrid AF by combining 627-point focal-plane phase-detection AF[vii] with Advanced Face Detection and Real-time Eye AF at high frame rates with continuous AF, allowing camera operators to simply and accurately track fast-moving subjects in slow motion without losing focus.
Fast Hybrid AF works with more than 50 native E-mount lenses, including 4K 120p.
The camera can also capture up to five times slower camera with 120fps in 4K (QFHD).
The new FX6 also offers internal variable electronic ND filters for easy and optimized control of camera filter density.
Users can set Variable ND to auto or adjust the filter density manually in smooth increments of 1/4 to 1/128 for perfect exposure of images without affecting depth of field or shutter angle, even during changing lighting conditions.
In combination with the camera's ultra-high sensitivity, the variable ND filter gives users incredible creative control in virtually any shooting environment.
INCREDIBLE MOBILITY AND OPERABILITY
Built with a durable magnesium alloy chassis, measuring just 116mm x 153mm x 114mm and weighing just 0.89kg, the FX6 has a lightweight and compact design that makes it easy for users to hold and film at any time.
The new camera includes a heat dissipation structure to keep the camera components within their normal operating ranges and prevent overheating, even during long recording times. The FX6 also features a modular design that allows users to easily pair accessories, such as handles and display finders, or attach the camera to other mechanisms, such as gimbal suspensions and drones.
The FX6's 3.5-inch LCD viewfinder can be attached to various locations on the camera body for greater freedom and easy menu control with touch operation.
Using a quick-access control menu for the most accessed features, camera operators can change key settings with a simple touch, including: codec, image scan mode, image size and frequency, base ISO and sensitivity, shooting mode, and audio levels.
PROFESSIONAL-GRADE RELIABILITY
In line with our professional workflows, the FX6 includes a 12G-SDI output that also supports 16-bit RAW, HDMI output, timecode input/output, built-in Wi-Fi, and four-channel audio recording (via XLR interface, multi-interface shoe, and built-in stereo microphone).
The new camera also features two CFexpress Type-A card-compatible media slots for increased overall capacity and faster read and write speeds, as well as UHS-II/UHS-I SDXC cards.
Plus, Sony Catalyst Browse software Users can import image stabilization metadata from FX6 into Catalyst Browse to transform handheld footage into stunningly flawless and stable visuals.
The FX6 also has a dedicated Clip Flag button to easily filter and locate preferred shots using Catalyst Browse/Prepare.
The software also reflects metadata indicating when the FX6 is rotated or is in its normal position, eliminating the need to rotate the image in advance.
The FX6 is also compatible with Sony's Content Browser mobile app to easily monitor and control focus, iris and zoom remotely.
