BLACKMAGIC DESIGN Pyxis 6K - EF Mount
BLACKMAGIC DESIGN Pyxis 6K - EF Mount
The new Blackmagic PYXIS 6K is a high quality digital film camera that produces accurate skin tones and vivid, natural colors. With an extremely versatile design that allows you to mount the perfect camera rig for your production. There are three models available (with EF, PL or L mounts) that include two CFexpress and Ethernet recorders to share directly to the Blackmagic Cloud.
Designed for Maximum Customization
With multiple mounting points and accessory side plates, it's easy to set up Blackmagic PYXIS to be your perfect camera. The PYXIS is lightweight and at the same time very resistant thanks to its compact body made of aerospace aluminum with precision CNC machining. It is easy to mount on various camera rigs, such as cranes, gimbals or drones. In addition to the various mounting threads on the top and bottom of its body, Blackmagic PYXIS includes several side plates so you can mount many accessories such as grips, microphones or even SSDs. You can mount the perfect, durable and reliable camera for all your productions, just right for you.
Hollywood look
The Blackmagic PYXIS 6K gives you all the professional features you need for feature films, TV shows and documentaries. It has the same features as high-end digital film cameras to capture more intense colors, more detailed images, and also a wider dynamic range between the brightest highlights and deepest shadows.
Large Format Digital Cinematic Film Sensor
The Blackmagic PYXIS 6K has a large full frame sensor with native resolution of 6048 x 4032 which is almost three times larger than a Super 35 sensor and allows you to shoot with shallow depths of field or use anamorphic lenses for a truly cinematic look. It can record at up to 36 fps at full resolution or at 120 fps in windowed mode. Thanks to the incredible sensor and Blackmagic color palette, it has the same imaging technology as more expensive digital film cameras.
Flexibility with full frame
The Blackmagic PYXIS 6K's large full frame sensor lets you work in a variety of cinematic screen formats and aspect ratios without sacrificing quality. You can use the entire sensor area to get a single 3:2 aspect ratio image with open gate and reframe shots in post-production. In addition, it can work in true anamorphic aspect ratio of 6:5 without cropping, generating cinematic widescreen images with more detail and resolution. You can even use it with the classic Super 35 size window, to create an instant close-up version of the plan that blends perfectly with the open gate images.
Three Models
With Blackmagic PYXIS you have several lens mount options to let your creativity flow! You can choose from L-mount, EF or PL mount lenses, making Blackmagic PYXIS compatible with the world's widest range and most popular cinema and photographic lenses. The L-Mount model is compatible with the latest full-frame lenses from Leica, Panasonic and Sigma and can be used with adapters to use even more new and vintage lenses. With the EF model, you can use the high quality photographic lenses you already have from your DSLRs and Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Cameras. The PL model allows you to work with professional cinema lenses from Zeiss, ARRI, Cooke, among others, without the need for an adapter.
Amazing Images with HDR
The distance between the brightest and darkest parts of an image is called the dynamic range and is measured in stops. The Blackmagic PYXIS 6K has an incredible 13 stops dynamic range which preserves more detail in the brightest and darkest areas of an image than regular camcorders. So you can set the display for an indoor scene and keep the details of the bright street light coming through the window. You get even more colours than the standard DCI-P3 colour space used in feature films. The DaVinci Resolve Studio software included with the camera gives you complete creative freedom, with exposure adjustments and full recall controls when color processing.
Dual Gain ISO
With a dual native ISO of up to 25600, Blackmagic PYXIS is optimized to minimize grain and noise in images while maintaining the full dynamic range of the sensor. When you change the ISO setting, the gain is automatically adjusted so you can capture great images when you don't have artificial lights.
Multiple Resolutions and Frame Rates
Blackmagic PYXIS can record at all standard resolutions and frame rates from HD to DCI 4K and even 6K. Blackmagic PYXIS shoots at up to:
- 36 fps at 6048 x 4032 at 3:2 open gate
- 60 fps at 6048 x 2520 in 2.4:1
- 60 fps at 4096 x 2160 in DCI 4K
For higher frame rates, you can window the sensor and record up to:
- 100 fps at 2112 x 1184 in Super 16
In true anamorphic 6:5, at higher resolutions up to:
- 24 fps at 4832 x 4032 at 4.8K
- 120 fps in 1080HD
4" LCD monitor
The built-in LCD on Blackmagic PYXIS is a high resolution 4" HDR touch screen that's perfect for monitoring and viewing footage on set. With full HD resolution, you can frame and focus your footage without having to carry an external monitor. You can use the monitor as a focus assist station. As the screen is HDR it has 1500 nits of brightness to frame your plane, even in bright sunlight. Screen overlays show state, recording parameters, histograms, levels, framing guides, and more. You can also apply 3D LUTs to monitor the footage with the desired colors and look.
Controls at your fingertips
The design of the Blackmagic PYXIS is intuitive and puts important functions such as ISO, WB and shutter as well as on-screen controls at your fingertips. You can also quickly adjust the settings via the scroll wheel. Thanks to a row of three customizable function buttons, you don't have to navigate through menus to change commands. The controls can be locked to prevent accidental changes during filming or when the camera is out of range.
Side Plates
The innovative side plates further enhance the adaptability of your camera. The standard plate included with Blackmagic PYXIS is made of the same aircraft grade aluminum as the camera body and includes two 1/4" and one 3/8" mounting threads so you can install any accessories.
Ideal File Formats for Post-Production
Blackmagic PYXIS shoots in Blackmagic RAW to preserve detail, exposure and color control during post production and records HD H.264 proxies in real time. Blackmagic RAW is highly optimized, multi-threaded, runs on multiple CPU cores and is also GPU accelerated for Apple Metal, CUDA and OpenCL compatibility. Your images maintain exceptional resolution and quality in HD, 4K or 6K. Media files work on all operating systems, and you can format cards and disks in HFS+ on Mac and exFAT on Windows.
Record to CFexpress or External Discs
The Blackmagic PYXIS has a built-in CFexpress card recorder and a USB-C expansion port for direct recording to external flash drives or SSDs. Perfect for recording 12-bit Blackmagic RAW files at full resolution, CFexpress is faster and lasts longer. It can record more than an hour of 6K footage at full resolution on a single 256GB CFexpress card. With dual CFexpress slots, you can swap out full cards without having to stop recording.
Blackmagic PYXIS has an innovative, high speed USB-C port that operates at up to 5Gb/s, making it possible to connect external accessories such as flash drives and high speed SSDs for significantly longer write times. You can also use the built-in Ethernet port to control the camera over the network via secure, easy-to-use REST APIs.
Quality and speed
Blackmagic RAW is a revolutionary new format designed to capture and preserve the quality of camera sensor data. You'll have no issues with quality and get stunning images with incredible detail and colour throughout the entire production pipeline: from filming to editing, colourisation and mastering. It also saves camera settings as metadata, so you can set the ISO, white balance, and exposure in the camera and replace them later in editing: without loss of quality.
Blackmagic RAW files are small, quick to use and easy to work with. It has the highest quality, the smallest files, and the fastest performance.
Editing changes
With Blackmagic RAW you can adjust all your image settings without any hassle with post production with DaVinci Resolve Studio. From Color Temperature, Contrast, ISO, Hue, Saturation, and Exposure.
Powered by Blackmagic OS
Thanks to advanced Blackmagic OS, you have an intuitive, easy-to-use operating system with the latest technology. All camera functions operate independently for more fluid control, with near-instant start-up. With the same controls and menus as other Blackmagic cameras, you can switch between cameras on set with ease. The interface uses simple touch and swipe gestures to adjust settings, add metadata, and view the recording status. Can make advanced camera adjustments such as on-screen focus and exposure tools, 3D LUTs, HDR, metadata entry, timecode, Blackmagic RAW settings and more.
Color Science
With the same 5th generation color science as URSA, Blackmagic PYXIS delivers even more advanced image quality, with accurate skin tones and true color in every shot. It features a new 12-bit dynamic range curve designed to capture more color data in highlights and shadows, delivering more compelling images. Color science also takes care of some of the complex image processing of Blackmagic RAW, ensuring that color and dynamic range data from the sensor are preserved through metadata that can be used in post production. Thus, after the color adjustments made in the finalization with DaVinci Resolve, the images gain a natural and cinematic look.
Automatic synchronization
In addition to in-camera recording, Blackmagic PYXIS allows you to create a small H.264 proxy file and send it directly to the Blackmagic Cloud in a matter of seconds, making footage available in real time. Can be downloaded directly to the DaVinci Resolve media distribution or any editing tool
