The standard ISO range has been increased to ISO 100-51200 (expandable to ISO 50-2048006 in still images), detail reproduction and area-specific noise reduction preserve image detail and reduce noise. Performance at medium to high sensitivities allows you to shoot at high ISO without worrying about noise and image degradation.

Dynamic range of approximately 15 stops

Colour reproduction performance has been significantly improved to give captured subjects a more natural colour, true to their real look. This results in greater realism of skin tones in portraits, blue skies in landscapes, and more vivid tones in still subjects.

More stable shots with 5-axis stabilization

High-precision stabilization uses the stabilization unit with algorithms and gyro sensors for 5.08 shutter speed mode, in a system that compensates for 5 types of camera shake and multiple lenses and delivers excellent performance.

14-bit RAW output for detailed gradations

For smoother, more natural gradation, the new BIONZ X image processor and front LSI process image signals at 16-bit. It allows 14-bit RAW data output, in silent mode or continuous shooting. 

4D FOCUS — The evolution of AF performance

AF performance has been improved by optimally applying the same AF advancements as the α9, so when the α7 III captures unpredictable moving subjects like dancers, boxers and wild animals in action, it doesn't let them slip easily.

The α7 III features Touch Focus and a touch pad function to intuitively drag the focus frame with your finger while using the viewfinder.

AF in Focus Magnifier

Use autofocus for stills while the focus area is magnified in the viewfinder/monitor, and zoom in after autofocus. This is ideal for focusing on a small area and for precision focus photography.

More versatile AF settings in everything

You can adjust the AF tracking sensitivity in 5 steps for stills. You can change the AF points/areas as you change the image orientation. Focus point settings can be assigned to custom buttons.

Fast continuous shooting for unforgettable moments

The α7 III shoots in bursts of up to 10 fps with AF/AE tracking and up to 8 fps in live view mode. The camera also supports silent shooting at up to 10 fps with AF/AE tracking at full resolution.

Motivating continuous capture

Capture action with continuous shooting at up to 10fps (or 8fps for live-view shooting) with AF/AE tracking. In a continuous burst, it captures up to approximately 177 JPEG (standard) images, 89 compressed RAW images, or 40 uncompressed RAW images.

Shoot continuously in absolute silence

This camera enables silent shooting at up to 10 fps with AF/AE tracking. Silence is essential for many scenes, even when the tiniest noise can cause you to miss a great shooting opportunity.

Anti-flicker pickup

The camera detects artificial lighting flicker and adjusts the shutter to minimise exposure and colour inconsistencies in images shot at higher shutter speeds, as well as between continuous shooting.

Improved operation during continuous shooting

Groups of images captured in continuous shooting mode can be quickly reviewed, deleted, or protected. You can access the menu screen and change the settings20 and also operate image playback while writing data.

4K HDR High Resolution

The camera is equipped with the new capability to record stunning 4K movies with 2.4 times the oversampling and a new HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) picture profile that supports instant HDR workflow.

Full pixel readout without pixel binning for high-resolution 4K movies

Full pixel readout without pixel binning in 35mm full-frame mode condenses approx. 2.4 times the data required for 4K movies (QFHD: 3840 x 2160) and minimizes moiré and jaggies. Select full-frame or Super 35mm mode as needed. 4K recording uses the XAVC S format with bitrates up to 100 Mbps.

Improved Fast and Hybrid AF for movie recording

Fast Hybrid AF with phase-detection AF and focal-plane fixed contrast-detection AF and tracks moving subjects fluidly. Now, the AF area of stills also applies to movies. The low AF control speed results in more pronounced slow-focus effects. The matching of focus response to scenes has been improved.

HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma), Flux Work Instant HDR

New HLG picture profile with instant HDR workflow. Movies shot in HLG have a realistic look, minimizing highlights or dull blacks that deteriorate gradation and detail, without color grading.

Supports S-Log3 and Slow and Fast Motion

S-Log3 enhances gradation from shadows to midtones and extends dynamic range up to 14 stops. Also, select a frame rate from 1 to 120/100 fps for 60x fast motion and 5x slow motion.

Reliable features and operation in a compact body

The α7 III's operation is enhanced through quick control during shooting, clear view via the Tru-Finder, versatile connectivity, extended endurance for shooting from multiple power supplies, and superior durability and resistance to wet and dusty environments.

Longer battery life for more professional battery life

The α7 III uses an NP-FZ100 battery pack that is 2.2 times larger than the NP-FW50, which enables up to 710 shots on a full charge. The optional BC-QZ1 battery charger allows for faster charging than USB charging.

Dual media slots, UHS-II support

With two media slots, including one that is UHS-II compatible for fast data writing, the α7 III can simultaneously or non-simultaneously record RAW/JPEG data and separate stills/movies, and copy data between cards.
