SONY α7R IV Body
SONY α7R IV Body
Expressive virtuosity. The full-frame mirrorless α7R IV reveals breathtaking photographic vision, with an expressiveness previously expected only from high-speed, medium-format cameras in a compact body. Discover how its improved stiffness and connectivity improve productivity.
Even more inspiring
Enter a new world of photographic expression with unrivalled image quality and processing speed. The α7R series features powerful new options, thanks to more advanced connectivity and professional-grade reliability.
61.0MP full-frame back-illuminated CMOS sensor
The newly developed Exmor R CMOS image sensor delivers unrivalled high resolution. The backlit design features high sensitivity and low noise, despite the extremely high pixel count of 61.0 MP.
The latest image processing engine
BIONZ X image processing engine and front-facing LSI (Wide Scale Integration) to maximize sensor performance for high resolution and up to 15 stops of dynamic range.
Wide range ISO 100-32000 standard
Despite the increase in pixels, the α7R IV delivers the highest standard ISO 320005 and reduces noise in the low and mid-sensitivity ranges, achieving a high-quality image.
In-body 5-axis image stabilization
The image stabilizer algorithm on the 5-axis body has been optimized to maximize the performance of the high-resolution 61.0MP sensor. Assists handheld shooting for effective reliability and increased shutter speed6 of 5.5 stops.
Shoot in absolute silence
Silent shooting is an advantage in places where silence is mandatory and prevents vibrations that cause blur due to camera movement. A shake-free shutter maximises the α7R IV's high resolution for super-sharp images.
Blur reduction structure
To maximise the resolution available to the α7R IV, vibration needs to be reduced, so Sony has redesigned the shutter unit mount with damped screws to absorb shutter impact. With an Image Stabilizer algorithm, blur is reduced and details are captured reliably.
Shake-free remote shutter release
Remote operation of the camera via an optional wireless remote control (RMT-P1BT) allows you to take photos by avoiding camera shake caused by shutter closure. In this way, you maximize the high resolution of the image sensor.
UXGA OLED Tru-Finder with 5.76 million dots
The 5.76-million-dot viewfinder shows the finest details with 1.6x the resolution of the α7R III. Choose "High" quality and get high-precision, natural realism, suppressing ripple and jagging for better concentration. The smoother image with 120/100 fps makes it easier to follow moving subjects.
Highest shooting speed in its class
Despite the remarkable image resolution, the α7R IV maintains a shooting speed of up to 10 fps with a mechanical shutter (up to 8 fps in live-view continuous shooting mode). This allows you to capture decisive moments, such as the movement of wild animals, with subtle details only allowed by the high-resolution 61.0MP image.
26.2 MP useful with APS-C cutout
Thanks to the excellent image resolution, you can maintain remarkable high-resolution images with approx. 26.2 MP, even after cropping a full-frame image to APS-C size. So the α7R IV can help you proactively use full-frame shooting at 61.0MP, for example in bird photography, which tends to require crop editing to enlarge captured images.
Wide AF coverage
The new image sensor provides wide, high-density AF coverage with 567 phase-detection AF points (approximately 99.7% height and 74.0% width). 425-point contrast-detection AF supports precision focusing.
Fast AF despite the highest resolution
Thanks to improved Fast Hybrid AF, the α7R IV has the ability to capture a subject in remarkable detail, delivering instant AF even in low light.
Stable and improved AF tracking
AF point magnification, extended AF sensor coverage, and optimized AF algorithm have improved subject tracking performance to achieve consistent shooting, even of complex or sudden movements.
High-precision AF in low light conditions
Advanced algorithms contribute to AF accuracy at light levels as low as EV-3. The "Focus priority on aperture unit" option allows for more precise focusing in low-light environments and when the aperture is stopped.
Capture up to 68 images continuously
Because the buffer memory size is 1.5 times larger, the camera maintains burst shooting speed of up to approx. 68 images. With APS-C mode, you can shoot approx. 3 times as many photos as with full-frame mode.
Dual media slots, support UHS-II
UHS-I and UHS-II compatible SLOT 1 and SLOT 2 slots for fast bulk data writing. The α7R IV can record simultaneously or at intervals, separate RAW/JPEG data and stills/movies, and copy data between cards.
Extended shooting for professional duration
The α7R IV uses a high-capacity NP-FZ100 battery. For more hours of shooting, combine it with the optional VG-C4EM Vertical Grip, which holds two NP-FZ100 batteries, allowing you to capture twice as many shots as the α7R IV.
Rely on AI-powered Real-Time Tracking
This feature has recently demonstrated a huge increase in success rate on the most challenging photos. Simply designate an object, press the shutter button halfway down, and the camera follows the subject steadily. In the "Face/Eye Priority in AF" function, the α7R IV easily switches tracking targets between the face and the eye when the subject is a person.
Technology-based real-time tracking
AI-based object detection technology and Sony's original algorithm process large volumes of data captured by the image sensor in real time, tracking subject changes at every moment. Color, pattern, object distance, human face, and eye information is used for very accurate object detection.
Real-time Eye AF with Animal Eye Tracking
Thanks to an improved algorithm, the α7R IV now supports animal eye tracking in addition to human eye, enabling automatic, fast and accurate detection and tracking. The animal eye mount will increase your success rate in capturing images of animals in the wild or at home, when obstacles arise or the camera's horizontal/vertical orientation changes frequently.
Real-time Eye AF: The Evolution of Portraiture
This Eye AF is the evolution of portrait photography. AI-powered technology provides accurate and immediate eye detection and tracking for sharp, clear focus on the subject's face, even on a fast-moving model. The photographer can focus on composition, for a smoother workflow that relies on professionals.
Instant focus on one eye
When the Face/Eye Priority function in AF is enabled, press the shutter halfway, press the AF-ON button or a custom setting button. The camera is responsible for focusing on one of the subject's eyes.
Left/right eye selection of your choice
Now you can even select a specific eye (left or right) before or during the photo shoot using the custom button. Eye selection allows you to focus on composition, lighting, and other details.
Works with Real-time Tracking for eye-catching portraits
You can combine the use of Real-time Eye AF with Real-time Tracking, which responds to the movement of dynamic subjects. This teamwork allows for precise tracking to shoot portraits in comfort.
