61.0-megapixel Exmor RTM full-frame image sensor
The back-illuminated sensor, with noise reduction, gapless on-chip design objectives, anti-reflective optical coating, elimination of the optical low-pass filter that is usually placed in front of the sensor and other original technologies, provides high resolution, high sensitivity, low noise and a wide dynamic range.
BIONZ XRTM image processing engine
The latest BIONZ XR engine minimises processing latency, improves photo and movie processing, and features natural gradations, true-to-life colours, low noise, superior image quality and fast menu response.
High sensitivity and high dynamic range with little noise
Advanced imaging technology enables sensitivity settings from ISO 100 to ISO 32000 for stills and movies. Dynamic range at lower sensitivities is 15 stops, for smooth, realistic gradations, from shadows to highlights.
Consistent Accurate Color Exposure and Reproduction
The AI processing unit achieves a white balance, even in shadows. Skin tones, foliage, and other materials have natural colors in almost any type of light, with realistic gradations like the highlight roll-off in portraits.
Advanced 5-axis optical image stabilization
Image stabilisation, gyro sensors and optimised algorithms detect and correct camera shake, giving a huge 7.0-stop advantage for handheld shooting.
Multi-pixel shift capture reacts to changes
Pixel-shift multi-shooting uses the built-in stabilisation system to capture multiple pixel-shift images, which are then composed on a PC for optimal resolution in a single image. Composites of 16 images with about 240.8 million pixels (19,008 x 12,672 pixels) can be produced from data, which is equivalent to about 963.2 million pixels.
Anti-flicker pickup
Artificial light flicker is automatically detected, and mechanical or electronic shutter time and speed are thoroughly controlled to minimise its effects.
Selectable RAW image sizes and HEIF
The three sizes (L/M/S) of lossless RAW compression include M and S outputs at the same resolution (26MP/15MP) for full-frame and APS-C for smooth workflows. Light mode for JPEG and HEIF produces images that are easy to share.
Creative Look supports a variety of expression
Creative Look offers 10 presets that can be used unchanged or edited to create various "looks" that help creators perfect the ambience of their photos or movies in-camera.
AI processing unit for object recognition
The AI processing unit supports the recognition of people, through learned shapes and postures, and non-humans, such as animals, insects and vehicles. This improves the performance of Real-time Recognition AF and Real-time Tracking, and the acquisition and tracking of fast, hybrid AF subjects becomes more accurate and reliable over a wider area.
Human Pose Estimation Using a Skeleton-Based Model
With the AI processing unit, the α7CR can use object shape data to recognize movement, which greatly improves human eye recognition. Human pose estimation recognizes the eyes and the position of the body and head, with high accuracy. This allows you to lock on to and track an object that is not looking at the camera or that has its face partially covered by a helmet or glasses, for example.
Recognition of a wider range of objects
The AI processing unit recognizes more objects, including the eyes of more small animals, grazing animals, and birds. The new definition of Animal/Bird eliminates the toggle. Cars/Trains and Airplanes (the whole or the front part), and the heads of insects are also recognized.
Persistent real-time tracking
To enable AI-based real-time tracking, specify the subject and press the shutter button halfway. The camera automatically tracks the subject so that the user can focus on framing and composition. Recognition performance and tracking reliability have greatly improved in a wide range of shooting situations.
Wide, high-density AF for stable subject shooting
BIONZ XR and the updated algorithms achieve highly optimized Fast and Hybrid AF performance. There are up to 693 phase-detection points covering about 79% of the image area, achieving precise focus even when the subject is small. The α7CR features phase-detection and contrast-detection AF for fast, steady focusing, even in single AF mode (AF-S).
High-precision AF even in dark scenes with EV -4.0
The latest AF algorithm enables AF shooting in low-light conditions at an EV of -4.0 (AF-S, ISO 100 equivalent, F2.0 lenses), even in dark scenes and indoors, and includes a useful focus priority mode.
Continuous DMF
When shooting with AF-C or AF-S autofocus, the lens's focus ring can be rotated to instantly switch to manual focus mode at any time. This makes it easy to quickly switch focus to a different subject.
Better shooting with focus bracketing
The camera captures up to 299 images with focus points shifted sequentially, with user-customized intervals and sequences. Choose the right shot or post-process shots to create creative composites with incredible depth of focus.
Continuous AF/AE shooting at up to 8 fps
Continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking is possible at up to 8 fps with the mechanical shutter, or 7 fps during silent shooting, capturing momentary movements or expressions in stunning detail. The power of the BIONZ XR engine enables the continuous shooting of more than 320 JPEG images to capture all the moments that matter. 26MP resolution and high image quality are maintained during shooting or cropping close to the APS-C format, enabling continuous shooting of birds in flight with AF/AE tracking.
Mobility for high-definition movie recording
The α7CR offers highly detailed 4K movie capture with 6.2K oversampling, plus the mobility needed for gimbal or drone shooting. It also includes S-Cinetone™ for a cinematic look, record capture, real-time tracking with advanced subject recognition, image stabilisation with active mode, breathing compensation and many other improvements.

The latest BIONZ XR and updated algorithms greatly improve the image quality of movies. In addition to focus support, the AI processing unit is also used for accurate white balance, even in tricky shadow cases. Oversampled video in 6.2k, for stunning 4K images
One can record full-frame and 35mm Super 4K movies. With full pixel readout without pixel dropout, you can condense about 2.6x the data you need into 4K with high resolution and detail, and minimal jaggies and moiré.
S-Cinetone: it's easy to create a cinematic look
Sony's S-Cinetone picture profile reproduces colours and skin tones more faithfully, with natural halftones crucial for a healthy skin appearance, plus soft colours and great highlights, delivering a cinematic look without colour grading.
Log and LUT Recording
The α7CR's S-Log3 gamma curve maximizes the 14+ points of latitude. S-Gamut3 and S-Gamut3.Cine settings are also provided for more post-processing control, and user-selected LUTs can be applied to preview how the footage will be processed.
Active mode supports manual movie shooting
Active mode offers stabilization for movie shooting with advanced gyro sensors and an optimized algorithm. Camera shake is detected and compensated for, with extra stabilisation via compatible lenses, synchronised to the camera body.
Real-time tracking enables focusing during movie shooting
AI-based real-time tracking brings a huge improvement to real-time tracking, through automatic recognition, tracking, and focusing on the eyes of a particular subject.
Easy and stable smartphone transfers
The stability of the connection when passing images from the camera to the Creators' App on smartphone has been greatly improved. Downloads continue in the background, even when your smartphone screen is idle or another app is launched.
