No lockouts for uninterrupted vision
An uninterrupted view without blocking the object allows you to respond instantly. The EVF is upgraded to minimize latency during continuous shooting.
120 AF/AE calculations per second
Fast sensor readout enables 120 AF/AE calculations per second, even at 30 fps bursts, for maximum AF tracking accuracy on fast and erratic subjects, AE latency < 0.003 sec.
Silent, vibration-free shutter
The silent electronic shutter offers better opportunities to shoot sports and subjects without noise. Vibration-free operation contributes to high image quality.
Anti-distortion shutter
The sensor's quick readout minimises distortion of photos with the electronic shutter. The BIONZ XRT™ engine and a high buffer offer 1.5x less distortion than the a9 II.
Flicker-free electronic and mechanical shutters
Pioneer 6 flicker-free electronic and mechanical shutters. Flicker-free shooting with fluorescent/artificial light, with all the advantages of the electronic shutter.
50.1MP full-frame Exmor RS™ CMOS sensor with integral memory
The stacked architecture on this back-illuminated 50.1MP full-frame image sensor contributes to the speed and high resolution. Separate pixel and circuit levels and advanced A/D conversion translate into faster processing.
New BIONZ XR architecture and processing engine
The new BIONZ XR engine features advanced architecture for 8x higher processing. The result is excellent image quality and improved camera interface responsiveness.
Electronic shutter flash sync
For the first time in a camera, electronic shutter flash synchronisation is made possible by the quick readout of the stacked CMOS sensor. All the advantages of the electronic shutter are still available for flash shooting.
Shutter with flash sync up to 1/400 sec
The world's first dual-trigger shutter system enables flash sync up to 1/400 sec, making it easier to capture dynamic action and expanding creative possibilities.
Outstanding resolution and image quality
The new 50.1MP Exmor RS CMOS sensor offers high resolution and sensitivity with low noise, plus up to 15 stops of dynamic range. A new image processing engine achieves greater color accuracy than previous models.
Wide sensitivity ISO100~32 000
Despite the sensor's high pixel count, the sensitive back-illuminated structure with gapless solid-circuit lenses and AR-coated glass offer a standard ISO range of ISO100~32,000, expandable to 15050-102,400.
Pixel shift multiple capture
Up to 16 images captured with in-body stabilisation control can be combined via software to create photos with up to 199 million pixels for excellent resolution, colour and atmosphere.
Creative Look supports a variety of expression
The Creative Look feature offers 10 presets that can be used unchanged or edited to create various looks that help creators perfect the ambience of their photos or movies in camera.
5-axis optical image stabilization with 5.5 stops
A precise stabilisation unit, gyro sensors and the latest image stabilisation algorithms offer a 5.5-stop shutter speed advantage, maximising the quality of high-resolution images.
Real-time Eye AF for Birds
High-level subject detection technology now makes it possible for Sony's Real-time Eye AF to accurately track and focus on birds' eyes, even when flying or when the frame changes. This innovative function responds to the challenges of bird photography.

Designed especially for dogs and cats, this feature uses advanced object detection to accurately track and focus on the eyes of animals. It also works with the animal's face backwards.

Combining advanced AI technology and evolved Fast and Hybrid AF algorithms, al's Real-time Eye AF tracks and focuses on the human eye with approximately 30% more accuracy than the a9 II.
Real-time tracking
Select a subject, press the shutter halfway down, and the camera automatically tracks and maintains focus. Enable Face/Eye Priority AF for perfect AI-based tracking of human, animal, or bird eyes.
Wide, fast, and accurate AF tracking
The al includes sensitive, fast and accurate focal-plane phase-detection AF. The 50.1MP sensor and BIONZ XR engine offer 759 detectable phase-detection points, which cover approximately 92% of the image.
Next-generation 8K 30p recording
The α1's new image sensor and BIONZ XR engine deliver 8K (7680 × 4320) 30p movie recording of outstanding realism. Four times the 4K resolution with Real-time Tracking and Real-time Eye AF. 8K footage ideal for flexible 4K editing. 8K 4:2:2 10-bit recording is available from α1 version 1.3, allowing for more varied expression and high-level editing capability at 8K resolution.
4K movies at 120fps frame rate
The α1 supports internal 4K movie recording at a high frame rate of up to 120fps, for smooth and expressive slow-motion playback at up to 5x. 10-bit 4:2:2 chroma subsampling can be used with Long-GOP or Intra (All-I) compression for stunning image quality, while the new BIONZ XR image sensor and engine minimise distortion.
4K, full sensor readout, no pixel binning, 5.8K oversampling
In Super 35 mode, approximately 2.3x of the data required for QFHD 4K is achieved through full-frame readout without pixel binning for beautiful, detail-rich images.
10-bit 4:2:2 chroma subsampling
10-bit depth, 4:2:2 chroma subsampling, a high-efficiency MPEG-H HEVC/H.265 codec, intra-frame encoding, and more support flexible editing and multiple formats.
S-Log for compatibility with cinema cameras
S-Log2 and S-Log3 included. S-Log3 offers smooth 10-bit gradations and dynamic range of more than 15 stops. S-Gamut, S-Gamut3, and S-Gamut3.Cine color spaces supported.
HLG5 (Hybrid Log-Gamma) 4:2:2 10-bit
High dynamic range HLG movies support the BT.2020 colour space and are playable on HDR (HLG) compatible TVs. 10-bit HLG recordings offer better gradation and greater detail.
Eye AF and Real-time Tracking for Movies
The BIONZ XR engine offers better detection, accurately tracking human eyes at a wider range of head angles. Also available for 8K and 4K recording at 120p.
Digital audio interface for superior sound
The digital audio interface offers excellent audio quality with compatible audio devices connected via the Multi Interface Shoe. Crystal-clear digital audio is output directly to the camera.
Heat dissipation for long recordings
The new heat-dissipating frame prevents overheating during continuous recording without increasing the size of the frame. Record 8K/30p or 4K/60p video continuously for up to 30 minutes.
16-bit RAW output
The α1 offers 16-bit RAW output to an external recorder via HDMI for greater flexibility in post-production. RAW output via HDMI is available during 4K recording to internal card.
Cinematic S-Cinetone look
The α1 features the same S-Cinetone colour matrix that produces the beautiful colours and skin tones of the FX9, FX6 and other Cinema Line cameras. S-Cinetone offers natural mid-tones, essential for beautiful skin colours, soft colours and stunning highlights, for even more expressive depth.
"Active Mode" image stabilization
The new Active Mode for movie shooting increases the effectiveness of 5-axis optical image stabilization in handheld shooting. It uses the real-time processing of the BIONZ XR engine to apply optimal compensation across all formats, including 4K. All this without compromising the compact size and mobility of the α system.
High-performance viewfinder
The α1's approx. 9.44 million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder currently offers the highest resolution in the industry. With 0.90x magnification, 41° FOV for a wide and clear view, and an upgraded body for 25mm elevated positioning. 240fps refresh rate with pioneering UXGA FOV, for a clear view of fast-paced action.
Panning with electronic shutter
Using the electronic shutter at low speeds can reduce the display response and make it difficult to track fast subjects. Enable [Low Frame Rate Limit] to improve the display response and enable panning.
Easily switch between full-frame and APS-C
M and S-size images have the same number of pixels and AF area in both full-frame and APS-C modes, so you can easily switch between full-frame [M:21MP] and APS-C [M:21MP] when capturing the same scene.
New menu structure
Another feature requested by professional photographers and videographers: the menu structure has been revised to make it easier to navigate and use the touch menu for more intuitive control.
Customizable Functions
164 functions assignable to 17 custom buttons and front and rear dials. Independent function sets can be assigned for stills, movies, and playback.
