High-resolution 2x zoom for 4K footage
Zoom with prime lenses while filming. The Z8 can emulate 2x optical zoom, both in-camera and in real-time. The image does not degrade and it is possible to program three different zoom speeds.

12-bit RAW
Nikon's N-RAW format creates files half the size of a ProRes Raw HQ file. It works for footage up to 8.3K/60p or 4.1K/120p.

Codecs
Work with N-RAW, ProRes Raw HQ, ProRes 422HQ, MOV H.265, or MP4 H.264. Also, it has N-Log and HLG shooting modes.

Constant f/4 aperture

Effortless autofocus

Stepper Motor
NIKKOR Z lenses use a stepping motor for fast, accurate, smooth, and quiet autofocus with reduced flicker. This silent drive system makes the lenses ideal for use when shooting videos.

Electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism
An electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism in the lens barrel provides highly precise electronic control of the aperture diaphragm or blade when using automatic exposure during continuous shooting.

ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass
An optical glass developed by Nikon used in telephoto lenses to achieve optimal correction of chromatic aberrations.

IF Lens
A NIKKOR lens in which only the inner lens group changes during focusing. Thus, NIKKOR IF lenses do not change size during AF operation, allowing for compact and lightweight lenses capable of closer focusing distances. These lenses will be designated with the abbreviation IF on the lens barrel.

Vibration reduction
Nikon technology in the lens that improves image stability by automatically compensating for camera shake. Lenses that offer VR will feature the abbreviation VR on the lens barrel.

Super Integrated Coating
Nikon Super Integrated Coating is Nikon's term for its multi-layer coating of the optical elements in NIKKOR lenses.

Aspherical Lens
A lens with a curved, non-spherical surface. Used to reduce aberrations and allow for a more compact lens size. Aspherical lenses minimize coma and other types of lens aberrations, even when used at the widest aperture. They are particularly useful for correcting distortions in wide-angle lenses and help contribute to a lighter and more compact design by reducing the number of standard (spherical) elements required. Aspherical lens elements correct these distortions by continuously changing the refractive index of the lens center.
