PENTAX 17
It's time to get back to the movie!!

Compact film camera with a fixed focal length, designed to capture photographs at half the size - Half-frame. In addition to the distinctive image quality created only by a film camera, this new model offers users the fun and excitement of manual camera operation unique to film photography, such as manually winding film using the film advance lever and manually setting the focus range with the zone focus system. It is the first release of Ricoh Imaging/Pentax's Film Project initiative and was designed using a major influence from Pentax's legacy of previous film cameras.

What is the difference from film camera?
As the name implies, this is a camera that uses film as a recording medium. Digital cameras record images that use electrical signals, but film cameras create images by exposing the photosensitive layer of the film to light. What is Half-frame? Film comes in a variety of formats, but the most popular is the 35mm format (frame size 36mm x 24mm) — what we call lifesize in digital photography. Half-size is a format in which two photos (17 mm x 24 mm) are captured in a single frame in the 35 mm format, which means you can double the number of photos that can be captured on a single roll of film – 72 roll photos of 36 exposures or 48 photos on film of 24 exposures.

Simple to use
One of the main attributes of the Pentax 17 is its simplicity and ease of use; It's a true point-and-shoot, which uses a precise auto exposure system to allow you to focus on composing and capturing the shot. In terms of exposure variables, users can manually set ISO/ASA (from 50-3200), adjust the exposure compensation by +/- 3 EV, and use a mode dial.

Dial
The mode dial is divided into two sections: flash off or flash on. With flash on, there's a choice between an automatic program with flash and a slow sync with flash settings. With the flash off, auto program, bulb, and slow shutter speed settings can be used, as well as a unique bokeh mode, which prioritizes using the maximum aperture of f/3.5 for the shallowest depth of field. In addition, there is an automatic intermediate mode that chooses whether or not to use the flash, depending on the lighting conditions.

Flash
There's also a built-in flash on the front of the body. This flash has a guide number of 20' at ISO 100 and a recycle time of about 9 seconds. The LEDs near the display show when the flash is recharging and when it is ready for use.

Design
The top plate includes the manual film rewind button; the shutter release button, which is surrounded by the power button; the film advance lever; and the film counter window. The display is placed in the middle of the body and has a simple window design with bright frame lines. The frame's lines include a close-up compensation notch for more precise framing when using the closest focus zone.
The front of the camera has a serrated, removable strap to place the single CR2 battery that powers the camera. The back of the camera has a slot for inserting notes or a piece of a film case (so you remember what film you have put in your camera). In addition, near the top there is a 2.5 mm port, which can be used with a cabled remote shutter release (optional). And, on the bottom of the camera, there's a 1/4"-20 tripod thread and the film rewind button.

Traditional 25mm f/3.5 Lens
The fixed lens is a HD PENTAX HF 25mm f/3.5, wide-angle lens that offers stunning sharpness and color reproduction. It features Pentax's contemporary HD anti-reflective coating, helping to increase contrast and clarity.
The lens focuses using a six-mode manual zone focusing method, which is visible on the top of the lens and is visible in the device's viewfinder:
Macro (flower) 0.25 m
Close-up (knife and fork) 0.5 m
Portrait (person) 1.2 m
Two people 1.7 m
Group of People 3 m
Close-up (mountain) ∞

Legacy
Despite being an all-new camera, the Pentax 17 uses a lot of details inherited from previous Pentax cameras to bring us a distinctive design: the film rewind button is taken from the Pentax LX, the ISO dial from the SP, the flash and shutter release from the KP, the lens housing from the Espio Mini, the text of the front logo of the 67, the serrated battery cover of the DA WR series of lenses, the film advance lever of the Auto 110 and the top plate of an LX special edition. In addition, the viewfinder includes the classic Pentax logo along with the Asahi AOCo and a film shot indicator taken from its DSLR lineup.
