High-performance cinema lens for the X Series

The lens offers high optical performance and comfortable operation for professional video recording. Together with the MKX18-55mmT2.9, the MKX50-135mmT2.9 is the first fully manual cinema lens to be compatible with the X Series interchangeable camera. In 35mm equivalent format, the MKX50-135mmT2.9 covers a focal length of 76mm to 206mm and achieves a T2.9 aperture *1 The lens design is optimized for shooting videos, as it minimizes focus and optical axis shift while zooming, and reduces lens breathing (the change of angle of view during focusing). The lens also features three rings to enable manual and independent focus operation, zoom and iris (aperture), all with the gear pitch *2of 0.8M (module). The focus rings can fully rotate up to 200 degrees for easy precise focusing. These features make the lens very comfortable and convenient to operate.

Advanced optical performance

MKX50-135mmT2.9 uses 22 glass elements in 17 groups, with two super ED lens elements and two ED lens elements.

It has a T2.9 aperture throughout the zoom range, which facilitates the increasingly popular style of bokeh effect with shallow depth of field. This also eliminates the need to readjust the lighting, contributing to shortened shooting time.

The MKX lens achieves advanced optical performance despite its compact and lightweight body, incorporating the benefits of the X Mount's short flange focal length into the optical design to the fullest. This accommodates shooting with a limited number of people.

The electrical contact to communicate with the X Series camera not only corrects color/glare distortion and shading, but also achieves various color expressions with film simulation modes.

Optical and mechanical design

Suppress focus shift while zooming

The front focus group of the lens elements and the zoom group of the lens elements are triggered independently of each other to suppress focus shift while zooming, which eliminates the need to refocus after zooming in or out. The optical and mechanical approach means that there is no time delay as seen in an electrical control system.

Suppress focus shift while zooming

The use of the front-facing internal focus system controls the lens's breathing (change of angle of view during focusing, which achieves a soft focus in a stunning scene.

Suppress optical axis shift while zooming

The manufacturing technology developed for FUJINON conventional cine lenses is applied to control the displacement of the optical axis while zooming, always achieving the intended composition.

Comfortable operability

  • The focus ring features a full 200-degree rotation to facilitate precise focusing, even when shooting with a shallow depth of field, where a high degree of accuracy is required.
  • The lens has three fully manual rings to allow independent adjustment of focus, zoom, and iris (aperture). This allows for intuitive operations that cannot be achieved with an electric mechanism that normally causes delay.
  • All operating rings have a gear pitch of 0.8M, the same as all other FUJINON cine lenses, which allows the use of all standard third-party accessories for video production, e.g. Follow Focus, which allows for precise and smooth focusing.
  • The iris supports continuous adjustment without clicking. This allows for precise and quiet exposure adjustment while preventing camera shake caused by clicking.

Standardized design for ease of operation

  • Only one matte box between MKX lenses is required with a front diameter of 85mm.
  • Only one filter size between MKX lenses is required with an 82mm filter thread.
  • The gears of the three rings are positioned in the same place to eliminate the need to reposition accessories when changing MKX lenses.
  • The lenses have a macro function that allows you to shoot in close-up to expand the range of scenes that can be covered with a lens.
  • MK18-55mm: Minimum Object Distance *3  of 0.38m (wide end)
  • MK50-135mm: Minimum Object Distance of 0.85m (wide side)
  • The lenses feature a Focal Length Flange adjustment function *4  to achieve an optimal combination of camera and lens, highlighting the total optical performance of the lenses.
